Wild Burro Trailhead
Decorated with beautiful wildflowers, the Wild Burro Trailhead encapsulates Western filmmaking iconograpy. Visuals include saguaro cactus landscapes, ruins of an early 20th century stone house, an east-west canyon with beautiful mountains views and winding red dirt trails. The location has been used for award-winning nature documentaries and a collaboration with KIND bars and Oscar-winning cinematographer Emmanuel Lubezki.
Marana Regional Airport
Classified as a general reliever airport for Tucson International, the Marana Regional Airport (AVQ) is a premier location for filmmaking with its majestic Tucson Mountain Range views. The airport has a rich history as one of Arizona’s World War II Army Airfields and is home to more than 260 based aircraft. In 2020, Marana Regional Airport was accepted in the Federal Aviation Administration’s Federal Contract Tower (FCT) program and is authorized to install an air traffic control tower.
Town of Marana Roads and Vistas
Marana’s roads feature rural landscapes framed by open space, farm lands, and the dramatic mountains of Saguaro National Park West located in the Tucson Mountain Range, giving filmmakers and production crews a variety of different angles and shots to choose from. The vistas are just as extraordinary for location scouts.

The Marana Film Office and Laura Cortelyou have been a pleasure to work with each time I’ve worked with them.
They have made obtaining a permit and filming streamlined and easy. Everyone is extremely helpful and quick to find
solutions to any requests we’ve had. The filming locations offer beautiful and dramatic Sonoran Desert scenery with
dense saguaro forests and plenty of wildlife – perfect for nature documentary and western filming.
Making a film during a pandemic is quite challenging. You have to seek locations where you can create a ‘bubble’ for
your cast and crew away from the general public. A limited schedule and budget add their own complications. Laura
Cortelyou at the Marana Film Office provided us with multiple options to encompass all our needs. Locations that were
close in proximity. We had solitary access while we were shooting. The Marana Police were extremely helpful with
traffic control. In all, filming in Marana, Arizona brought our film to life.
