Dave Bautista signs on for a Miami-set action thriller, Eddie Redmayne reimagines The Day of the Jackal, and Reese Witherspoon and Will Ferrell star in a new wedding comedy

Cooler (FilmNation Entertainment)

Dave Bautista (the Guardians of the Galaxy series, Knock at the Cabin) will star in a new action thriller set in southern Florida. The film follows South Beach bouncer Ray Sagona as he endures a 36-hour odyssey across Miami after being blackmailed into finding a drug-filled safe that is stolen from the club he works at. The project will be directed by Drew Pearce, whose writing credits include Iron Man 3, Fast and Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw and Mission: Impossible: Rogue Nation. Production will be overseen by FilmNation Entertainment’s new Infrared Label, with filming set to begin in Miami in early June

The Day of the Jackal (Peacock)

Academy Award winner Eddie Redmayne (The Theory of Everything, the Fantastic Beasts series) will star as the titular assassin in the Sky/Peacock reimaging of The Day of the Jackal. The Frederick Forsyth book was first adapted in 1973 by Fred Zinnemann and starred Edward Fox, and this version is being billed by producers as “bold, modern reimagining of the beloved and respected novel and film.” The new series will be updated from 1960s France to modern Europe, and Irish screenwriter and novelist Ronan Bennett, creator and writer of the critically acclaimed global hit Top Boy, is attached as writer and showrunner. Filming will begin in London and Paris on June 5.

You’re Cordially Invited (Amazon Studios)

Will Ferrell (Spirited, The Shrink Next Door) and Reese Witherspoon (Big Little Lies, Your Place or Mine) will star and co-produce a new wedding-themed comedy series for Amazon. The premise reportedly involves two weddings that are booked at the same venue on the same weekend. The project will begin shooting in the Atlanta area in May and will be directed by Nicholas Stoller (Bros, Get Him to the Greek, the Neighbors film series).
