Deadpool 3 prepares to film, Assassin’s Creed director signs on for Western thriller, and ABC approves a new comedy pilot

Deadpool 3 (Marvel Studios)

The first Deadpool film since Disney’s acquisition of 21st Century Fox in 2019, this project will introduce Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine character into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. According to press materials, “A weary Wolverine finds himself recovering from his injuries when he comes across a loudmouth Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds) who has time travelled forward to heal his greatest pal in the hopes to befriend the wild beast and to team up to take down a foe they both have in common.” The film will be directed by Shawn Levy, and will mark his third collaboration with Reynolds after Free Guy and The Adam Project. Filming is set to begin in Vancouver, British Columbia in May.

The Order (AGC)

Acclaimed Australian director Justin Kurzel (Macbeth, Assassin’s Creed) has selected his next project, a thriller that chronicles the escalating crimes of the a white supremist domestic terror group. The film will star Jude Law (Fantastic Beasts) and Nicholas Hoult (The Menu), with the script by Oscar-nominated writer Zach Baylin (King Richard, Creed III). Based on the book Silent Brotherhood by Kevin Flynn and Gary Gerhardt, the plot follows a lone FBI agent (Law) who is stationed in Coeur d’Arlene, Idaho in 1983 and tracking a domestic terrorist gang lead by a charismatic leader (Hoult). Filming will begin in May in Alberta, Canada.

Public Defenders (ABC)

ABC has ordered a pilot from Eddie Quintana (Apple TV+’s Acapulco). Quintana wrote the pilot and will executive produce with Wonderland’s McG, Mary Viola and Corey Marsh, and he is also producing Not Dead Yet for the network, which stars Gina Rodriguez. The single-camera comedy follows four inexperienced public defenders, up to their earholes in student loan debt, who work tirelessly to keep their clients out of jail. Along the way, they have to rely on each other to navigate their first defendants, the absurd court system and the copy machine that always jams. Filming will begin in Los Angeles on March 31.
