American Classic (Amazon MGM Studios)

Academy Award-winner Kevin Kline (A Fish Called Wanda, The Big Chill) will star in a half-hour scripted comedy as MGM studios ramps up its television production following its acquisition by Amazon. Titled American Classic, the series follows Broadway star and notorious narcissist Richard Bean (Kline) after he suffers a spectacular public meltdown and returns to his tiny hometown and the family-run theater where he first became aware of his own brilliance. The once respected theater run by his brother (Jon Tenney) and his wife (now the town’s mayor) has become, by necessity, a low-rent dinner theater serving roast beef and murder mysteries. The Better Sister (Amazon MGM Studios)

Elizabeth Banks (The Beanie Bubble, The Lego Movie) and Jessica Biel (Candy, Cruel Summer) are set to headline a series adaptation of the Alafair Burke novel The Better Sister at Amazon Prime Video. According to press materials, “When a Manhattan lawyer is murdered, two estranged sisters, Chloe and Nicky, must set aside old resentments. Chloe, successful and married to the lawyer, Adam, reluctantly allows Nicky, her more reckless sister, back into her life. As they unite to protect Adam’s son from suspicion and confront family secrets, they must escape the shadows of their past.” The project will be directed by Craig Gillespie (Cruella and I, Tonya) and film in New York City beginning on June 3.
