Adam Driver and Regina Hall join hostage negotiation drama series Rabbit, Rabbit, Mark Walhberg and Riz Ahmed star in a soccer match-fixing drama, and Asa Butterfield headlines a new romantic drama
Rabbit, Rabbit (Netflix)
Netflix has announced a new limited series starring Adam Driver (Ferrari, House of Gucci) and Regina Hall (One Battle After Another, Girls Trip). Described as in the vein of Dog Day Afternoon and set in a southern Illinois truck stop, the plot follows an escaped convict’s hostage standoff spirals into a volatile social experiment—and a high-stakes duel of “tactical empathy” with a veteran FBI negotiator. The series will be produced and written by Peter Craig, who wrote the screenplay for Top Gun: Maverick, and co-produced with his Night Owl company along with MRC Television. Shooting is scheduled to begin on March 16 in Jersey City, New Jersey.
The Big Fix (Netflix)
Director Baltasar Kormákur will re-team with Mark Wahlberg after the success of Contraband and 2 Guns with a new project for Netflix. Titled The Big Fix and adapted from a book by Brett Forrest, the international soccer crime thriller is set in the high stakes world of match-fixing in the world’s most popular sport, where purity clashes with the dirty world of organized crime. The film will co-star Riz Ahmed (Sound of Metal, The Phoenician Scheme) and begin filming in Sydney, Australia beginning in early April.
Matinee Idol (Celsius Entertainment)
Asa Butterfield (Sex Education, Your Place or Mine?) will headline a new romantic drama from co-directors Glenn Leyburn and Lisa Barros D’Sa (Ordinary Love). According to press materials, “In a sleepy English town, a shy cinema owner escapes into old movies and online romance, but a lie about his identity spirals into a tangled mix of love, fantasy, and farce.” Production is scheduled to commence in London in March.
