Elizabeth Olsen and Julia Roberts star in a new paranoid thriller, Snoop Dogg headlines a French sci-fi original, and Paul Dano leads an adaptation of acclaimed novel The Wizard of the Kremlin
Panic Carefully (Warner Bros. Studios)
Elizabeth Olsen (WandaVision, His Three Daughters) and Julia Roberts (Pretty Woman, Ocean’s Eleven) are scheduled to star in a paranoid thriller that is being compared to The Silence of the Lambs and marks a reunion between Roberts and writer-director Sam Esmail (Mr. Robot, Leave the World Behind). Panic Carefully is about a hunt for a cyber-terrorist, and is described as a paranoid thriller with elements of suspense, intrigue and tension. Esmail is also producing A24 thriller Famous, in which Zac Efron and Phoebe Dynevor are starring for director Jody Hill. He was also an executive producer on Starz’s Watergate-focused series Gaslit, which debuted in 2022 and featured Roberts as Martha Mitchell. Filming for Panic Carefully begins in late January in London, UK.
The Last Man (EuropaCorp)
Hip-hop superstar Snoop Dogg will headline an original sci-fi film from French director Luc Besson (The Fifth Element, Lucy). Besson’s EuropaCorp production studio has overseen the hit Taken and Transporter franchises, and Dogg and Besson previously worked together almost 20 years ago on the animated feature Arthur and the Minimoys (where Dogg was a primary voice role). The pair will co-produce this new film, which has scheduled its principal photography for late January in Los Angeles.
The Wizard of the Kremlin (Curiosa Films)
Olivier Assayas, a French director best-known in the United States for his collaborations with Kristen Stewart (Clouds of Sils Maria, Personal Shopper) has assembled an all-star cast of Paul Dano, Alicia Vikander, Jude Law and Zach Galifianakis for a new Soviet-set adaptation of Giuliano da Empoli’s 2022 novel. The plot centers on Vadim Baranov (Dano), a TV producer recruited into a dark Russian regime that comes to the fore after the fall of the USSR, hinging on propaganda and false media tales. Filming is scheduled for January 20.
