Ted Lasso star Juno Temple lands new Apple series, Dwayne Johnson headlines a new psychological thriller, and Will Ferrell and Ramy Youssef team up for golf-centric Netflix show
The Husbands (Apple TV+)
Juno Temple (Ted Lasso, Fargo) will headline an 8-episode comedic drama for A24 that will be distributed on Apple TV+. The show will focus on Lauren (Temple), who returns home to discover that her attic is creating an infinite supply of husbands she’s never met who nonetheless have intertwined histories with her. Based on the bestselling debut novel from Holly Gramazio, the project will be overseen by lead writer Miriam Battye (Succession, Beef) and lead director Craig Gillespie (Your Friends & Neighbors, Pam & Tommy). Filming is scheduled for early November throughout the United Kingdom after the conclusion of Ted Lasso’s fourth season shoot.
Breakthrough (A24)
Dwayne Johnson (Red One, the Jumanji franchise) is set to star in a new psychological thriller from Darren Aronofsky (The Wrestler, Black Swan). Set in turn-of-the-millennium Southern California, the film follows an alienated young man who comes under the influence of a motivational guru (Johnson) whose intoxicating charm masks his morally questionable methods of manipulation and his own concealed darkness. The project will be the debut feature script from actor Zeke Goodman (Amazon’s Cruel Intentions streaming series) and produced by A24, which is overseeing the release of Johnson’s upcoming boxing drama The Smashing Machine. Filming is scheduled for early October in Los Angeles.
Golf (Netflix)
Comedy stars Will Ferrell (You’re Cordially Invited, Eurovision) and Ramy Youssef (FX’s Ramy, Strange Things) will team up for a gold-themed scripted comedy series set on the PGA tour. The show will focus on a fictional golf legend who becomes the face of a controversial rival league, with Youssef and Josh Rabinowitz (Broad City, The Carmichael Show) serving as showrunners. The series will be co-produced by Ferrell’s Gloria Sanchez Productions, and filming is scheduled for the Los Angeles area beginning in early September.
