Fresh off the success of his tennis romantic drama Challengers, Italian director Luca Guadagnino is preparing for a new film with Julia Roberts. According to the official logline, the movie follows Roberts as a college professor who “finds herself at a personal and professional crossroads when a star pupil levels an accusation against one of her colleagues.” As she navigates the difficult situation, “a dark secret from her own past threatens to come to light.” Roberts co-star will be Andrew Garfield (Tick, Tick…Boom, Under the Banner of Heaven), with filming set to begin in Los Angeles on July 31.

Michael Fassbender (The Killer, the X-Men franchise) will star in a new espionage political thriller series based on the popular French program Le Bureau des Legendes. Produced under George Clooney and Grant Heslov’s Smokehouse Pictures shingle, the show takes place in “a world of even deeper intrigue and subterfuge, with characters fighting their own battles as they grapple with existential threats to the nation and the world.” Joe Wright, best known for his literary adaptations Pride and Prejudice and Atonement, will direct the series, which begins production in London in late June.

Greek director Yorgos Lanthimos, who most recently directed the popular and critical hit Poor Things, will remake a South Korean sci-fi comedy titled Save the Green Planet. Lanthimos will re-team with Poor Things star Emma Stone, with Jesse Plemons (Killers of the Flower Moon, The Power of the Dog) co-starring. The plot follows a paranoid and bereft young man who believes that aliens from Andromeda have set about destroying the natural world around him, and he partners with his dutiful cousin Don kidnap a powerful pharmaceutical executive to prevent total disaster. The film is said to be a blend of dark comedy, tense thriller, eco-fiction, sci-fi and sharp societal critique. Filming will take place this July and August in London.
