Jamie Foxx headlines Olympic boxing drama for Netflix, Will Smith and Michael Bay reunite for new action-thriller, and Rebecca Hall stars in a zombie outbreak film
Fight for ’84 (Netflix)
Jamie Foxx (Back in Action, Day Shift) will continue his successful Netflix run with Fight for ’84. The film will take place after the U.S. Olympic Boxing team is tragically killed in a plane crash, and a new coach (Foxx) is brought in to rebuild the team from scratch and ultimately win the most boxing medals in American Olympic history. The project is written by Andrea Berloff (Straight Outta Compton) and John Gatins (Flight) and will be directed by Andrés Baiz (Narcos). Filming is set to begin in Newark, New Jersey in early October.
Fast & Loose (Netflix)
The Bad Boys team of Will Smith and Michael Bay will reunite for Fast & Loose on Netflix. According to press materials, “CIA operative/crime boss John Riley (Smith) wakes up in Tijuana with amnesia and must untangle his two conflicting identities while embroiled in a high-stakes conspiracy.” Additional production duties will be handled by David Letich’s 87North and the newly formed Amazon MGM Studios. This will mark Bay’s return to Netflix after 6 Underground in 2019 and is Smith’s first original action film since Gemini Man (also 2019). Filming is scheduled to begin in early August in the Los Angeles area.
Zero Protocol (Imaginarium Productions)
Rebecca Hall (Resurrection, the Godzilla vs. Kong franchise) will star in a new zombie-action horror film from Anton and Andy Serkis and Jonathan Cavendish’s UK company Imaginarium Productions. Hall will play an NYPD commissioner who battles to manage a city-wide zombie outbreak exploding in real time, only to discover her teenage daughter is trapped in the middle of the red zone. Debs Paterson (Halo, Willow) will direct a script from Dan Hall (The Silent Hour), with filming scheduled for London in early October.
