Linda Cardellini portrays Pamela Voorhees in a Friday the 13th prequel from A24, Chloe Grace Moretz headlines a new thriller, and Jason Bateman stars in a dark comedy series for HBO
Crystal Lake (A24)
Linda Cardellini (Dead to Me, ER) will portray the mother of legendary 80s slasher character Jason Vorhees in a Friday the 13th prequel series produced by A24 and distributed on the Peacock streaming service. Pamela Voorhees was the mother of Jason Voorhees, the hockey mask-wearing slasher featured throughout most of the films in the horror franchise. But in the original film, Jason is a child who drowns at Camp Crystal Lake. His death leads his mother, Pamela, to seek revenge against the counselors she blamed for her son’s death. Filming will take place in Cunningham County, New Jersey between July and November.
The Edge of Normal (XYZ Films)
Chloë Grace Moretz (500 Days of Summer, Kick-Ass) will star in a new thriller from Spanish writer-director Carlota Pereda. The plot follows who Reeve LeClaire (Grace Moretz), who is still haunted from when she was held captive as a teenager by a sadistic man. But when her psychiatrist (Rupert Friend) asks her to mentor a newly rescued survivor, she’s pulled into a chilling game of cat-and-mouse—one that threatens to drag her back into the nightmare she barely escaped. Filming will begin on May 5 in Los Angeles, with XYZ films handling production.
DTF St. Louis (HBO)
Jason Bateman (Arrested Development, Ozark) and David Harbour (Stranger Things, Thunderbolts) are set to star in and executive produce a seven-episode limited series from writer, director, showrunner and executive producer Steve Conrad (The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, Patriot). HBO has described the series as “a darkly comedic limited series about a love triangle between three adults experiencing middle-age malaise that leads to one of them ending up dead.” Filming is scheduled to begin in early May, with Atlanta playing St. Louis and additional production oversight handled by MGM Studios.
