David E. Kelly lands new ABC project, Jon Watts teams up with Brad Pitt and George Clooney, and Scream receives another sequel
Avalon (ABC)
Legendary television producer David E. Kelly (The Practice, Ally McBeal, Boston Legal, Goliath, Big Little Lies) will bring his next project to ABC—an adaptation of Michael Connelly’s murder mystery novel. The drama takes place in the city of Avalon on Catalina Island, where LA Sheriff Department Detective Nicole “Nic” Searcy heads up a small office. Catalina has a local population that serves more than one million tourists a year, and each day when the ferries arrive, hundreds of potential new stories enter the island. Casting is underway, with production set to begin in Victoria, British Columbia in late June.
Untitled Jon Watts Project (Apple TV+)
Jon Watts, fresh off a popular Spider-Man trilogy, will direct megastars George Clooney and Brad Pitt in a new thriller for Apple TV+. The film will be produced by Watts, Clooney’s Smokehouse Pictures and Pitt’s Plan B Entertainment, and focuses on two lone-wolf fixers assigned to the same job. Production is set to begin this June in Los Angeles.
Scream 6 (Paramount Pictures)
Ghostface will return after the latest entry in the popular series (known as Scream 5 or simply Scream) grossed $140 million worldwide earlier this year. Franchise stalwart Courtney Cox will return as reporter Gale Weathers, with directors Radio Silence (Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett) returning and James Vanderbilt & Guy Busick co-writing the screenplay. Filming will begin in Montreal, Quebec this June.
