Saoirse Ronan and Austin Butler star in a new A24 project from The Iron Claw director, Billy Magnussen headlines a Texas horror-comedy, and Juno Temple leads an Apple TV+ series
Deep Cuts (A24)
Austin Butler (Elvis, Caught Stealing) and Saoirse Ronan (Little Women, Blitz) are set to star in the new project from The Iron Claw writer-director Sean Durkin. Adapted from the debut novel of Holly Brickley and set in the early 2000s, the film is a love story about two music-obsessed twentysomethings navigating the messy realities of ambition, belonging and adulthood over the course of an era-defining decade. Ronan will produce alongside A24, with filming scheduled to begin in the Los Angeles area in early January.
Buzzkill (Anonymous Content)
Billy Magnussen (Lilo & Stitch, Road House) and Lulu Wilson (The Haunting of Hill House) will star in a new horror film set in a small Texas town terrorized by a creature that can only be seen by people who are drunk. Magnussen stars as recently widowed and recovering alcoholic Sheriff Red, who launches an investigation as locals begin turning up murdered and dismembered one by one, discovering that the monster feeds on the blood alcohol content of its victims. Directed by Joe Lynch (Everly, Mayhem), the film will be produced by Anonymous Content and The Veterans with a hopeful sale at American Film Market. Filming is scheduled to commence in Texas on February 2.
The Husbands (Apple TV+)
Juno Temple (Ted Lasso, Fargo) will headline an 8-episode comedic drama for A24 that will be distributed on Apple TV+. The show will focus on Lauren (Temple), who returns home to discover that her attic is creating an infinite supply of husbands she’s never met who nonetheless have intertwined histories with her. Based on the bestselling debut novel from Holly Gramazio, the project will be overseen by lead writer Miriam Battye (Succession, Beef) and lead director Craig Gillespie (Your Friends & Neighbors, Pam & Tommy). Filming is scheduled for early November throughout the United Kingdom after the conclusion of Ted Lasso’s fourth season shoot.
