Henry Cavill headlines a Highlander reboot, Benedict Cumberbatch and Olivia Colman remake War of the Roses, and Mark Wahlberg and Sterling K. Brown team up for a true-life thriller.

Highlander (87North Productions)

Henry Cavill (The Witcher, Justice League) will star in a theatrical reboot of the cult film series Highlander. Set primarily in the Scottish Highlands, the franchise follows immortals who battle for supremacy while living seemingly normal lives in the contemporary world and can only be killed if beheaded. The film will be produced fight choreographer-turned-director Chad Stahelski (John Wick) and overseen by his own 87North Productions production company, which has released recent hits such as Bullet Train. Filming will begin in January of 2025 on location in Scotland, with pre-production and interiors shot in Los Angeles.

The Roses (Spotlight Pictures)

Benedict Cumberbatch (The Power of the Dog, Doctor Strange) and Olivia Colman (The Favourite, Wonka) will star as a reimagining of the 1989 film The War of the Roses. Starring Michael Douglas and Kathleen Turner the original film focuses on bitter divorcees battling over ownership of their house. This new series follows picture-perfect couple Theo (Cumberbatch) and Ivy (Colman), who have successful careers, great kids and an enviable sex life. But underneath the façade of the perfect family is a tinderbox of competition and resentment that’s ignited when Theo’s professional dreams come crashing down. Also starring Andy Sandberg and Kate McKinnon, the series will be directed by Jay Roach (Bombshell, Meet the Parents) and begin filming in Los Angeles in late January.

By Any Means (Thunder Road Pictures)

Elegance Bratton will follow up his acclaimed directorial debut The Inspection with By Any Means, a true-life crime thriller starring Mark Wahlberg (Spenser Confidential, The Family Plan) and Sterling K. Brown (American Fiction, This Is Us). Set in 1966 Mississippi, the FBI teams an African American agent (Brown) with mafia hitman Greg Scarpa (Wahlberg) to solve a civil rights activist’s murder. Based on true events, the film explores their risky alliance as they navigate law enforcement, organized crime and the pursuit of justice in a racially charged investigation. Filming will commence in Birmingham, United Kingdom in March 2025.
