Succession creative team prepares new dark comedy with Jesse Plemons and Cole Escola, Jason Segel stars in a psychological thriller, and Guy Pearce and Pamela Anderson team up for a road trip musical
Jonty (A24)
Jeese Plemons (Bugonia, The Power of the Dog) and recent Tony Award-winner Cole Escola (Oh, Mary!) are set to co-star in a dark comedy set in the world of New York City theatre. While a detailed plot remains under wraps, the story follows a coddled young student who takes off for NYC where he joins forces with an old friend to produce a terrible Broadway play. The project will be written by Jesse Armstrong (Mountainhead, Peep Show) and directed by Lorene Scafaria (I Love LA, Hustlers), both who had extensive involvement with the hit HBO drama succession—Armstrong served as showrunner and Scafaria directed many high-profile episodes. Filming is scheduled to begin in New York City in early December.
Sponsor (Platinum Dunes)
Jason Segel (Shrinking, Winning Time) will reunite with The End of the Tour director James Ponsoldt for Sponsor. The psychological drama follows Peter (Segel), who—after a drunk‑driving accident—is compelled into a court‑mandated recovery program in lieu of prison. He meets Jerry, a charismatic 12‑step sponsor whose support spirals into control, launching Peter into a harrowing “living hell.” The film will be produced by Michael Bay’s Platinum Dunes, with principal photography scheduled for the Los Angeles area and Half Moon Bay in California on January 20.
Queen of the Falls (El Deseo)
Guy Pearce (The Brutalist, The Shrouds) and Pamela Anderson (The Last Showgirl, The Naked Gun) will star in a music-infused tale about two lovers on the run. Directed by Rania Attieh and Daniel Garcia (H), the story follows two outlaw lovers—a roadkill cleaner and a fugitive—as they race toward Niagara Falls in a music-driven road romance where freedom comes at a deadly price. Grammy winner Marius De Vries (La La land, Moulin Rouge) will write music and Celia Rowlson Hall (The Testament of Anne Lee, Aftersun) will choreograph. Filming is scheduled to begin on location at Niagara Falls in March 2026.
