Kerry Washington joins Apple TV+ series, Tom Cruise finds post-Mission Impossible project, and Paul Mescal re-teams with Ridley Scott
Imperfect Women (Apple TV+)
Kerry Washington (Scandal, Little Fire Everywhere) and Elisabeth Moss (Mad Men, The Handmaid’s Tale) are set to star in a limited series adaptation of the Araminta Hall novel Imperfect Women for Apple TV+. The series is described as an “unconventional, psychological thriller examining a crime that shatters the lives of a decades-long friendship of three women.” Annie Weisman, who previously created the Rose Byrne series Physical for the streamer, will executive produce and contribute writing credits. The series will be a collaboration between Disney-owned 20th Television and Apple Studios, with filming for the series will begin in Los Angeles this May.
Broadsword (Warner Bros. Studio)
After the presumed conclusion of the Mission Impossible film series is released next May, star Tom Cruise and writer-director Christopher McQuarrie will begin work on a new Cruise vehicle titled Broadsword. Set during World War II, the film will tell the story of a British Special Operations Executive marine captain who crashes in France and becomes the sole survivor. Against all odds, he must complete his mission amidst the chaos of war. The film marks the first project since Cruise’s highly publicized break from his long-time home studio Paramount, and will also star Henry Cavill (The Witcher, Justice League) and Marion Cotillard (Annette, Allied). Filming will begin in July in London and on location in France.
Dog Stars (20th Century Fox)
After collaborating on this November’s Gladiator II, star Paul Mescal and director Ridley Scott will re-team for an adaptation of the Peter Heller novel The Dog Stars. Set in Colorado after an apocalyptic pandemic, the story follows the unlikely team of a civilian pilot, his dog and a tough ex-marine as they venture beyond their air hangar shelter and respond to a mysterious message. The film will be written by Mark L. Smith (The Revenant, The Boys in the Boat), with filming set to begin in January 2026 on location in Colorado.
