Millie Bobby Brown and Gabriel LaBelle team up for college-set comedy, Cory Michael Smith makes his lead debut in A24 thriller, and Amazon assembles an all-star cast behind Brie Larson for Close Personal Friends
Just Picture It (Netflix)
Young stars Millie Bobby Brown (Stranger Things, the Enola Holmes film series) and Gabriel LaBelle (Saturday Night, The Fabelmans) will co-star in a new comedy for Netflix titled Just Picture It. The college-romance romp will follow two students discover that their phones begin showing them images of their future life together in ten years, complete with marriage and kids. Directed by Lee Toland Krieger (Celeste and Jesse Forever, The Age of Adaline) and written by former Late Show with David Letterman staffer Jesse Lasky, the project will be co-produced by Brown alongside Joe Roth and Jeff Kirschenbaum for RK Films. Shooting is scheduled to commence in Atlanta on September 8.
October (A24)
After receiving strong reviews for his portrayal of Chevy Chase in Saturday Night and billionaire Ven Parish in HBO’s Mountainhead, Cory Michael Smith will embark on his first starring role in October. Directed by Jeremy Saulnier (Rebel Ridge), the project has been described as a fugitive thriller set during the Halloween season. Saulnier will direct from his own script, with A24 producing and financing, and filming is scheduled for late September and throughout the fall in Portland, Oregon and Vancouver, British Columbia.
Close Personal Friends (Amazon MGM Studios)
Amazon MGM Studios has assembled an all-star cast for Close Personal Friends, a comedy that centers on a couple that meets and befriends a celebrity couple while on a trip to Santa Barbara and blurring personal boundaries. Brie Larson (Room, Captain Marvel), Jack Quaid (The Boys, Oppenheimer), Lily Collins (Emily in Paris) and Harry Goulding (Crazy Rich Asians, The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare) are all attached to star, with a script form Isaac Aptaker (Love, Simon). Jason Orley, who previously directed the 2022 romantic comedy I Want You Back for Amazon Studios, will helm the project. Filming is scheduled to begin in London and Los Angeles in early September.
