Amy Adams stars in a Cape Fear remake, Nicholas Hoult headlines heist thriller for John Wick action sequence director, and Jonah Hill and Jennifer Lawrence portray siblings in Cut Off
Cape Fear (Apple TV+)
Six-time Academy Award-nominee Amy Adams (Vice, American Hustle) will star in and executive produce the Apple TV+ series Cape Fear. Based on John D. MacDonald’s novel The Executioners, the story was previously adapted for film by J. Lee Thompson in 1962 and Martin Scorsese in 1991. The tense, Hitchcockian thriller will explore America’s obsession with true crime, as happily married attorneys Amanda (Adams) and Steve Bowden (Javier Bardem) face the return of Max Cady, a notorious killer from their past. The 10-episode series will be overseen and primarily written by Nick Antosca (Channel Zero, The Act), with filming scheduled in Atlanta from late April until early October.
How to Rob a Bank (Amazon Studios)
Nicholas Hoult (Nosferatu, Juror #2) has signed onto a new bank heist thriller distributed by Amazon and directed by John Wick creator David Leitch. The story centers on a group of savvy bank robbers that use social media to document their heists, playing a cat and mouse game with police. The script will be written by Mark Bianculli, who worked previously worked on the Amazon-produced series Hunters, and produced by Leitch and his wife Kelly McCormick under their 87North banner. Filming begins in the Pittsburgh area on May 28.
Cut Off (Warner Bros.)
Jonah Hill (Don’t Look Up, You People) and Jennifer Lawrence (No Hard Feelings, Causeway) will star as a pair of fraternal twins whose wealthy parents stop supporting them financially in Cut Off. Also written and directed by Hill, the project received a $10 million California tax credit and is expected to begin shooting in the Los Angeles area in early June. Warner Bros. and Hill’s own Strong Baby Productions will oversee filming.
