Keke Palmer stars in Tom Hanks comedy remake, Brad Pitt re-teams with Fury director David Ayer, and Crazy Ex-Girlfriend creator Rachel Bloom films new ABC sitcom
The Burbs (Universal Content Productions)
Keke Palmer (One of Them Days, Nope) will lead a reimagining of the 1989 Tom Hanks comedy The Burbs for Peacock. The mystery-comedy series will follow a young couple returning to the husband’s childhood home in suburbia. Their peaceful life is disrupted when new neighbors arrive, revealing hidden secrets and introducing adangerous threats to their quiet neighborhood. Celeste Hughey (High Fidelity, Palm Royale) will be the series’ primary writer, with Seth MacFarlane (Family Guy, American Dad) and Brian Grazer (Empire, Arrested Development) will executive producing. The series will begin shooting on the same Universal backlot as the original film on March 3.
Heart of the Beast (Paramount Pictures)
Brad Pitt (Babylon, Bullet Train) has found his next star vehicle: an action-adventure film directed by David Ayer (The Beekeeper, Suicide Squad). The plot will follow a former Navy SEAL and his retired combat dog as they attempt to return to civilization after suffering a catastrophic accident deep in the Alaskan wilderness. The film will be a reunion for Pitt and Ayer after the 2014 World War II action film Fury, with production duties handled by Pitt’s Plan B Entertainment and Wild Chickens Productions (overseen by Babylon director Damien Chazelle). Filming will take place in New Zealand between March and May to recreate the Alaska.
Do You Want Kids? (20th Century Television)
Crazy Ex-Girlfriend star Rachel Bloom will produce and act in a new single-camera comedy for ABC in collaboration with her husband: TV and film writer Dan Gregor. The show will follow a husband and wife across two universes. In one, they decide to have a child and take on all the responsibility that entails, while in the other, they decide against having kids altogether. Bloom and Gregor will bring their own experiences as parents to the series, and Steve Levitan (Modern Family, Just Shoot Me!) will serve as executive producer. Filming begins in the Los Angeles area in early August.
