Martin Scorsese teams with Leonardo DiCaprio for a historical crime drama set in 19th-century New Orleans, a supernatural thriller heads to South Carolina, and a new biographical film explores the legacy of Breakfast at Tiffany’s and the life of Audrey Hepburn.
Midnight Vendetta (Sikelia Productions)
A new historical crime drama from Martin Scorsese is moving toward production in New Orleans, Louisiana. Midnight Vendetta examines the arrival of the Sicilian mafia in the city during the late 19th century, culminating in the 1890 assassination of Police Chief David Hennessy and the mass lynching that followed—one of the largest in U.S. history.
Written by Eric Roth and produced by Lisa Frechette and Rick Yorn, the film reunites Scorsese with frequent collaborator Leonardo DiCaprio. Cinematographer Rodrigo Prieto is attached to lens the project, continuing his long-running partnership with Scorsese. Production began earlier this year in New Orleans, a location whose historic architecture and cultural backdrop play a central role in the story’s depiction of organized crime’s early roots in America.
Where The Sweetgrass Grows (Coyote Mountain Productions)
A suspense thriller with supernatural elements is preparing to film in Charleston, South Carolina, beginning in mid May. Where the Sweetgrass Grows follows an investigative reporter who discovers that her secret psychic abilities may be the key to uncovering a serial killer responsible for a string of missing girls—before she becomes his next target.
The film is based on a novel of the same name, written by Lori Roberts, and will be directed by Cecile Cinco. The production is expected to make use of the Charleston region’s mix of urban settings and surrounding Lowcountry landscapes to support the film’s atmospheric tone.
Fifth Avenue, 5 A.M. (Imagine Entertainment)
Imagine Entertainment is developing a feature exploring the creation and legacy of the classic film Breakfast at Tiffany’s. Titled Fifth Avenue, 5 A.M., the project will examine the real life of Audrey Hepburn alongside the creative tensions and cultural forces behind the making of the 1961 film.
Written by Alena Smith and produced by Brian Grazer alongside a team of collaborators, the film will star Lily Collins as Hepburn. Production is planned for New York City, where much of the iconic original film was set, though a start date has not yet been announced. The project aims to give audiences an inside look at the personalities, artistic debates and industry pressures that shaped one of Hollywood’s most enduring classics.
