Robert De Niro makes his TV series regular debut, Jessica Chastain produces an Apple limited series, and Julianne Moore stars in a thriller from Mare of Easttown creator

Zero Day (Netflix)

Robert De Niro will star in his first series regular television role in Zero Day, a conspiracy thriller from Eric Newman (The Watcher, Narcos), Noah Oppenheim (Jackie, The Thing About Pam) and Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist and author Michael S. Schmidt. Additionally, Lesli Linka Glatter (Homeland, Mad Men, Love & Death) will direct all episodes and executive produce. While the plot is under wraps, De Niro will play the U.S. President in a six-episode series written and executive produced by Newman via his Netflix overall deal. Filming will begin in New York city in early June.

The Savant (Apple TV+)

Academy Award winner Jessica Chastain (The Eyes of Tammy Faye, George and Tammy) will star in an eight-episode limited series for Apple. Inspired by a true story published in Cosmopolitan in August 2019, the plot centers on a woman who has come to be known as “The Savant” as she infiltrates hate groups online to help stop large-scale public attacks. Melissa James Gibson (Anatomy of a Scandal, The Americans) will serve as writer, executive producer and showrunner, and Matthew Heineman (A Private War, Retrograde) will direct and executive produce. Chastain will executive produce with her company Freckle Films. Filming will begin in New York City in early June.

Echo Valley (Apple TV+)

Mare of Easttown creator Brad Ingelsby will write a thriller for Apple starring Julianne Moore (When You Finish Saving the World, The Glorias) and Emmy Award-nominee Sydney Sweeney (White Lotus, Euphoria), who will play mother and daughter Kate and Claire Garrett. According to press materials, “Echo Valley is a thrilling series about Kate Garrett, a woman who trains horses on a secluded farm. When her daughter Claire shows up covered in blood, Kate must go to extreme lengths to protect her.” The film will be produced by Scott Free’s Ridley Scott and Michael Pruss, Ingelsby, and Kevin Walsh under his multi-year Apple TV+ producing deal. Filming will commence in Jersey City in early May.
