Tracy Morgan stars in new CBS sitcom, Zoe Kravitz joins Darren Aronofsky’s new film, and Brendan Fraser to depict Dwight D. Eisenhower in D-Day drama.
The Crutch (CBS)
Hit CBS sitcom The Neighborhood will receive a spinoff starring 30 Rock and Saturday Night Live star Tracy Morgan. The spinoff centers on Francois “Frank” Crutchfield (Morgan), a Harlem flooring store owner still grieving his late wife. Crutch’s life takes a chaotic turn when his children, Jake and Jamilah, announce they might move back home. Despite the upheaval, having family close could be exactly what he needs. The pilot was written by Own Smith (who has penned scripts for Run the World and Black-ish) and production will be overseen by Neighborhood star Cedric the Entertainer and his company A Bird and a Bear Entertainment. Shooting for the mid-season pickup show will begin in New York in November.
Caught Stealing (Sony Pictures Entertainment)
Austin Butler (Elvis, The Bikeriders) is set to star as a former baseball player-turned criminal in the new movie from Oscar-nominated Darren Aronofsky (Black Swan, The Whale). Based on the book by Charlie Huston, the plot will follow Hank Thompson, a burned-out baseball player, as he’s unwittingly plunged into a wild fight for survival in the downtown criminal underworld of ‘90s New York City. Co-starring Zoe Kravitz (The Batman, Kimi) and Regina King (If Beale Street Could Talk, Watchmen), the project is set to film in New York City beginning on November 22, with Sony producing.
Pressure (Working Title Films)
Brendan Fraser (The Whale) will star as Supreme Allied Commander Dwight D. Eisenhower in the new film Pressure, which will depict the preparations for D-Day. The true story will see All of Us Strangers and Ripley star Andrew Scott play Britain’s Chief Meteorological Officer James Stagg, whose job it was to inform Eisenhower of weather conditions that would make or break their Normandy invasion. The complex decision-making was critical in the fate of the war and the course of history. The project will be directed by Anthony Maras (Hotel Mumbai) and written by David Haig as an adaptation of his acclaimed play. Filming will begin in London on September 30.
