Keke Palmer stars in new Boots Riley film, Hugh Jackman to depict Robin Hood, and Liam Neeson gets behind the wheel in cross-country thriller
I Love Boosters (Neon)
Boots Riley will make his much-anticipated Sorry to Bother You follow-up with I Love Boosters, which he will write and direct. Starring Keke Palmer (Nope, Hustlers) the film revolves around a ring of female shoplifters called the Velvet Gang. They survive on “boosting” clothing items from department stores, but their next target (the CEO of a designer brand) has just ripped off leader Corvette’s idea, and she absolute needs to pay, sparking an unintended “revolution.” Produced by Neon, the movie will begin filming in Oakland on August 15.
The Death of Robin Hood (A24)
Hugh Jackman (Deadpool & Wolverine) and Jodie Comer (The Bikeriders, Killing Eve) will star in a darker interpretation of the Robin Hood myth. The film will see the title character grappling with his past after a life of crime and murder, and the battle-worn loner will find himself gravely injured and in the hands of a mysterious woman who offers him a chance at salvation. The film will be written and directed by Michael Sarnoski, who recently helmed the successful franchise extension A Quiet Place: Day One, and produced by Lyrical with A24 overseeing distribution. Filming will take place this February in Los Angeles.
Mongoose (Code Entertainment)
Liam Neeson (Taken, Silence) will lead the police on an epic televised cross-country car chase in action-thriller Mongoose. Neeson will star as Ryan “Fang” Flanagan, a war hero who, accused of a crime he didn’t commit and with nothing to lose, leads police on an epic televised cross-country car chase helped by members of his former Special Forces Army battalion. The film will mark the directorial debut for Mark Vanselow, who previously oversaw the stunts for the Indiana Jones and Pirates of the Caribbean franchises. Code Entertainment will fully finance, with Amazon Prime Video owning distribution rights. Filming is set to begin in Los Angeles and Sydney, Australia in early January.
