Netflix develops a Jersey City crime comedy from Dan Levy and Rachel Sennott, DC Studios pushes forward on its next major Superman installment, and The Summer I Turned Pretty heads back to coastal North Carolina for its feature-film finale.
Big Mistakes
Netflix is developing Big Mistakes, a crime comedy series centered on two incompetent siblings whose failed robbery accidentally entangles them with organized crime. The series boasts a notable comedic pedigree behind the camera, with Emmy winner Dan Levy attached as co-writer alongside Rachel Sennott, whose recent work has helped define a new wave of dark, awkward ensemble comedy. Producers include Dean Holland, Etan Frankel, Timothy Greenberg and Anne-Marie McGintee.
Jersey City, New Jersey is currently eyed as the primary filming location. Industry observers will likely note Netflix’s continued investment in regionally based East Coast productions outside New York City proper, with Jersey City increasingly attracting productions thanks to proximity to Manhattan, expanding studio infrastructure and New Jersey’s competitive tax incentive program.
While no shoot date has been confirmed, the project is in active development with pre-production staffing already underway.
Man of Tomorrow
DC Studios and Warner Bros. Pictures are officially in production on Man of Tomorrow, the fourth feature film in the rebooted DC Universe and a direct continuation of James Gunn’s new long-term franchise strategy. Written, directed and produced by James Gunn alongside producer Peter Safran, the film reunites David Corenswet as Superman/Clark Kent and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor. The story reportedly forces the longtime rivals into an uneasy alliance against Brainiac, portrayed by German actor Lars Eidinger in the villain’s first live-action theatrical appearance.
Production is centered at Trilith Studios in Atlanta, Georgia, one of the industry’s largest purpose-built production campuses, with additional filming taking place in Macon, Georgia; Cincinnati, Ohio; and the United Kingdom. The multi-country production reflects the increasingly global scale of tentpole filmmaking under Warner Bros.’ DC relaunch strategy.
Returning cast members include Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen and Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, while Matthew Lillard has joined the ensemble in an undisclosed role. Production is expected to continue through mid-2026 ahead of the film’s planned July 9, 2027 theatrical release.
The Summer I Turned Pretty: The Movie
Amazon MGM Studios is returning to southeastern North Carolina for The Summer I Turned Pretty: The Movie, the feature-film conclusion to the hit streaming romance franchise based on the novels by Jenny Han. Han directs the film and co-wrote the screenplay with longtime collaborator and series co-showrunner Sarah Kucserka. Production began April 27 and is expected to continue through late June in Wilmington and Southport, North Carolina — regions that have become increasingly popular for coastal dramas due to their versatile waterfront locations and experienced local crew base.
Lola Tung and Christopher Briney reprise their roles as Belly Conklin and Conrad Fisher following the conclusion of the series’ central love triangle storyline. Producers include Jenny Han, Sarah Kucserka and Karen Rosenfelt.
The production has already drawn significant fan attention online, prompting Amazon and Prime Video to publicly request that filming locations and schedules not be shared on social media after leaked set information reportedly disrupted production logistics and created safety concerns for cast and crew.
